Cutting Room Floor

Friday night's entertainment was possibly the last performance by the band "Cutting Room Floor" before they go on hiatus. Unless of course a big record company calls. These are all friends of Andrew's and most have been to our house a number of times. Andrew's picture is actually on the cover of their latest CD (it's a small picture). Visit their page on myspace for pictures and a sampling of their music: http://www.myspace.com/crfmusic

Go West, Young Man

Tuesday night, we drove to Rochester for two reasons. We met Andrew and his girlfriend Samantha and took them out to dinner before he left for a new life in Las Vegas on Wednesday. He will be working for Enterprise's management training program. Sam lives in Vegas now but they know each other from high school. She flew back East to accompany him on the long trip West. The first day, they made it through the thunderstorms to stay in Madison, IN, with his Grandpop and Grandmom Densten. The second day, his car broke down. He won't agree, but everyone should experience that just once. They got back on the road after 4 or 5 hours. He's pretty excited about traveling out there and seeing new places, experiencing new things. Now it's Sunday afternoon and he just texted me that they were taking a dam drive across the dam road (Hoover), so they are almost there. His mother has yet to fully recover from the apron string cutting experience.
Oh, the other reason? Lacrosse of course. Jeff attended a lacrosse try-out for the Addidas and Fellowship of Christian Athletes national or regional teams.

Glass Flames

Next time you visit this beautiful Finger Lakes and wine producing region of upstate New York, you might want to visit the Corning Museum of Glass, one of the major tourist attractions in New York.

As part of the museum's Hot Glass Show, they have a You Design It segment for the kids. They draw pictures and the winning picture is made into glass. Recently, friends from Albuqueque, NM, visited and their son Zack Kinsman(9 1/2) drew this picture. Zack said he liked drawing flames and that he thought they would look good in glass.

Zack's drawing won and this is how the flames look in glass.

Bear Cub

Several weeks ago I pulled out of the driveway headed to town for gas. Crossing the road just below the house was a mama bear with three little cubs underfoot. They saw be coming and scurried along. So by the time I arrived at where they crossed and got the camera ready, all I got a picture of was the last little guy standing up to see over the grass looking for the rest of his family.

Bobolinks

Bobolinks. They're not endangered, or even threatened. But they are considered a "species at risk". They are a grassland nesting bird and their habitat suffers because of earlier hay harvests. It's one of the species that I have been trying to attract. I don't ever recall seeing them before. So I was really pleased when we saw this nesting pair. Yes, I saw their nest with eggs. But I don't think I'll go back for a picture. You can check out the details at bobolinks. Sorry, I couldn't get any closer.

Mountain Laurel

After last year's bust of laurel blooms, I was worried. No need. Every laurel bush is loaded with blossoms this year.
