The Duffer

Jeff swam upstream against the current of peer pressure last fall and chose not to play football. Instead, he tried out for and made the District golf team, the Corning Hawks.

Not only does he look good, but I think he played exceptionally well. He can beat me, so he must be pretty good….

Incidentally, he was able to play and practice for free at the Corning Country Club during the season, where these pictures were taken.

This week, the Corning Country Club will host the LPGA in the Corning Classic for the last time.

Floyd Morehouse February 1920

In the year of his 21st birthday, Floyd Morehouse (my grandfather) kept a written log of his daily activities. My intent is to post them here through the year.

During January, we learned that he did what most young men on a farm might do. A whole lot of cutting wood, barn chores, hunting and trapping, and even a party. He didn't seem to care that on January 18, 1920, the Prohibition Act was passed. He visited a young lady named Clarice at least several times that he admitted to, and spent some time with a guy named Willie.

In the comments following the post, we learned that Uncle Skip Sawyer thinks that "Willie" is Will Resue. Duane Sawyer found a tin type of Will and scanned it for us.

Prom Night

Jeff and his girlfriend Jordan went to their prom last night.
Jordan was named Prom Queen.

This group of friends went out to dinner together first. After the prom, they attended an all night party at one of the parent's homes.
